Ornithological tourism in Vejer de la Frontera

Andalusia is one of the places where it is possible to find big quantity of natural habitats in one small area with different characteristics and different species. As a reference to the ornithology, it is one of the communities where the most birds may be observed, were they autochthony species or seasonal
migratories. And Cádiz is precisely the province that has the main number of natural areas that are conserved better than anywhere. There the birds pass by during the whole year.


The reason why so many birds pass by Cadiz is the strait of Gibraltar, the route that many birds follow on their seasonal migrations, originated from the african continent as well as those that come from the north and the rest from the Europe to search for warmer climate during the winter time. Christmas in Vejer de la Frontera

The christmas is a celebration that is specially lived in Vejer de la Frontera, as well as in many other towns of South of Spain. But it is true that in the province of Cadiz the christmas tastes and, above all, sounds different.


The christmas celebrations that are mounted in towns like Jerez, Sand Fernando, La Linea de la Concepcion or Vejer de la Frontera are more than famous. These fiestas are known as zambombas that consist of meetings with friends, family and neighbours to celebrate the christmas with traditional songs, food and drinks. But Vejer also offers one of its best faces in christmas: the streets and the monuments are decorated, but the natural surrounding, one of the most principal motives to visit in Vejer, also shines its best aspect.

Things to see in Vejer

Vejer de la Frontera is a town with a lot of history and traditions. There are many places and monuments to visit in Vejer, even though any corner of the town hides something special. Even the housing in Vejer already is an experience and also the service sector knows how to assimilate to the surroundings and how to multiplicate the enjoyment of the travelers on their visit.

The old town of Vejer de la Frontera was a walled city and for that reason Vejer de la Frontera is now located surroundings of this stone walled town. The stone wall has four doors and three towers that flank it: the Mayorazgo tower, the San Juan tower and the Corredera tower. More antique ones are the Arab remains of the city, spaces that were built because of the reconquist of the castles and churches: the church Parroquial del Divino Salvador was built on an antique Mosque and the castle of Vejer, that is a declarated National Monument since the 30´s, has clear islamic influences.

El Palmar beach

The province of Cádiz probably has got the most amazing beaches of Andalusia, and many of those are located in Vejer de la Frontera. One of those beautiful beaches, maybe the most known and the one where a lot of people goes on the summertime is the beach El Palmar. It is located between the beaches, Vejer and Conil.



The beach of El Palmar has got almost eight kilometers of untouchable beach line, with a beautiful golden sand and semi-crystal water. Being an unpopulated beach, it will not be overcrowded usually. For this reason, it is an ideal paradise for anyone who needs to relax on the beach. The month of August, best time of the summer. There are many events organized to her honor, and the whole village is taking part on this religious happening. The coast of light: Vejer de La Frontera

One of the most beautiful places to see and explore in Spain is a coast called Costa de La Luz (The coast of light). The coast is situated between Cadiz (the regional capital) and Tarifa (the southernmost point of Europe). Beaches and cliffs are stretching up to the border with Portugal. Costa de la Luz begins in the east, near the town of Tarifa - the most famous surfing center in whole Spain. With a good weather you can enjoy the view of the African continent. While staying in Andalusia you can’t miss visiting Cadiz – the oldest city in Europe, with beautiful historical city centre and amazing beaches.

But to fully explore Andalusia you should escape from crowded cities like Tarifa or Cadiz and travel around small, charming towns on a countryside.

Long time ago Andalusians settled in fortified towns and villages, located on hilltops. Those typical white towns remained and the lives of residents has not changed for centuries. Attractions near Vejer de la frontera

Vejer De La Frontera is situated perfectly as a starting point for the further exploration of the surrounding areas which are full of attractions no mater what your preferences may be.

In a mere two hours you could be on the African continent by crossing the Gibraltar strait by boat, and because of the different time zone you would arrive at the same time as you started your journey. In the surrounding areas of Vejer you have orchards of oranges, wines and olives as well as pastures where they breed the Spanish bull destined for the bullfighting arenas.


Costa de la Luz.
The coast of light is located in the southwest of Spain in the Andalusia autonomous region. It stretches from Gibraltar in the south to Portugal in the north, facing the Atlantic Ocean head on, with its windy beaches this is the best place in Europe for windsurfing and kite surfing.
